Threading is a temporary technique to remove hair.

Threading is IDEAL for facial hair and eyebrows.

Threading is an ancient method of hair removal which originated in India, spread to the Middle and Far East, and is now gaining popularity in Western countries like Canada and USA.

It is equally popular with both men and women in Arab countries. It is also popular in Persian culture where it is called Bande Abru ("Abru" means eyebrow, and "Band" is the thread).

Threading the entire face is widely spread amongst Iranians, but it was originally practiced when a woman was getting married or during special occasions. In ancient Persia, threading was a sign that a girl had reached adulthood and become a woman.

Threading is a very precise technique. The practitioner holds one end of the cotton thread in his or her teeth and the other in the left hand. The middle is looped through the index and middle fingers of the right hand. The practitioner then uses the loop to trap a series of unwanted hairs and pull them from the skin. Practitioners use a pure, thin, twisted cotton thread. Unlike tweezing where a single hair is pulled out each time, threading can remove an entire row of hair, resulting in a straighter line.

Regular threading can maintain a clean, sharp appearance of the eyebrow, without the common irritation and puffiness from facial waxing and other hair removal techniques. Threading removes the entire hair follicle, lasting up to 3-6 weeks.

The hairs do not have to be long in length to get threaded. Also because the thread can get the finest (peachy) hairs out, it gives a defined look. That is another reason why your eyebrow hairs don't grow back as quickly because every single hair is taken out every time you get threaded.

Advantages of threading:

• Inexpensive, fast, neat, considered less painful than tweezing for many.


• It’s extremely sanitary. Nothing but the thread touches the skin, and it’s thrown away after use.


• No chemicals are applied on the skin. 100% natural technique.


• No one's allergic to string (that I know of). Sometimes having an allergic reaction is mistaken as sensitivity. Waxes are often based on a certain ingredient like: lavender, tea tree, chocolate and the list goes on and on. With threading eyebrows there’s no need to worry.


• Threading grabs the most minute of hair and regrowth tends to be slower and finer.


• Prevention against wrinkles.

Disadvantages of threading:

• It can be hard to find someone experienced threading specialist. It’s a true art that has been passed down through the generations, and isn’t something you can easily learn in a couple classes- especially to do brow shaping. Unless you live in a large metropolitan city, you probably won’t find a salon or spa that does threading.
• If done incorrectly, the hairs can break.
• Not generally performed on the body, only the face.
